Coverage in the Power Industry consists of a phone verified database of 2,925 operational plants in North America with over 13,000 unique decision making contacts with over 20,000 functional management responsibilities.
Each month, IIR updates plant database information with changes that have taken place, including plant closings or new plant start ups. In 2001, 10 power plant officially closed, while 113 new stations started up. The active project spending information, based on June 2002 completion date and beyond, consists of approximately 1,838 projects representing $402 billion. During the year 2001, IIR reported on over 1,400 projects in North America worth over $350 billion.
Continuing through 2002, the growth in the power market combined with deregulation will contribute to large capital projects including grassroot plants, unit additions and station repowerings.

IIR’s industry coverage for North America is categorized by a four digit SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) Code, which identifies the primary business of the plant. Beyond the SIC code, IIR has expanded its coverage to include an eight-digit SIC Product Code that specifically identifies over 9 products produced at these plants such as 4931*0002 - Process Steam.
