The Midwest Region is home to over 78% of the Ethanol Plants located in the U.S. with majority of these plants owned by farmers' cooperatives. IIR’s coverage consist of a phone verified database of 61 operational plants in North America with over 200 unique decision making contacts with over 400 functional management responsibilities.
Each month, IIR updates plant database information with changes that have taken place, including plant closings or new plant start ups. In 2001, only 2 alternative fuels processing plants officially closed, while 7 new plants started up. Active project spending information, based on a June 2002 completion date and beyond, consists of approximately 82 projects representing $4.6 billion. In the year 2001, IIR’s team of industry specialists identified and confirmed 50 projects with a TIV (Total Investment Value) of $2.2 billion.
As alternative fuels producers continue to rely on the tax incentive program for renewable fuels passed by congress in 1988, and extending through to 2007, project spending activity will remain strong in 2002.
