Each month, IIR updates plant database information with changes that have taken place, including plant closings or new plant start ups. In 2001, 310 food & beverage processing plants officially closed, while 98 new plants started up. Active project spending information based on a June 2002 completion date and beyond consists of approximately 775 projects representing $8.9 billion. In the year 2001, IIR's team of industry specialists reported 1,102 project reports with a TIV (Total Investment Value) of $7.9 billion.
