Iberdrola Joins PRISM Nuclear Project in U.K.
GALWAY, IRELAND--July 29, 2014 --Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) Spanish energy major, Iberdrola SA (MCE:IBE) (Bilbao, Spain), has announced plans to join with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (Wilmington, North Carolina) to build a proposed PRISM fast reactor in the U.K..
The companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate on GE-Hitachi's ongoing project to deploy a PRISM high energy neutron - or fast - reactor design which it claimed could dispose of the U.K.'s plutonium stockpile "swiftly and economically, whilst creating significant investment in U.K. jobs and skills".
