U.K. Re-boots Nuclear Waste Burial Plan
GALWAY, IRELAND--August 4, 2014 --Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) The U.K. government has re-launched efforts to deal permanently with the country's radioactive waste.
The plan, outlined in its Implementing Geological Disposal report, centres around finding a site to host a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF), which will be used to store radioactive waste deep underground and inside multiple barriers, which the government argued would "provide protection over hundreds of thousands of years".
