Asia-Oceania Moves 37% of Global Rail Freight, Americas 33%
SUGAR LAND--September 8, 2014--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Worldwide rail freight movements in 2013 totaled 9,789 billion ton-kilometers (km), and the world's vehicle stock ran to almost 3 million locomotives, according to a Worldwatch Institute report. In freight rail, Asia and Oceania accounted for about 37% of all ton-km. The Americas accounted for 33% and Europe 29%. Africa lagged with only 1.4%.
