Coal Losing Ground in U.K. Electricity Mix

Coal Losing Ground in U.K. Electricity Mix

GALWAY, IRELAND--March 4, 2015 --Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) Coal's position at top of the U.K.'s electricity generating mix in recent years suffered a steep decline last year according to the latest energy figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Energy statistics for 2014 show that coal-fired power plants provided 34.7% of all U.K. electricity, down from over 40% in 2013, thanks to reduced capacity and the conversion of a second unit at the Drax coal-fired plant in Yorkshire to biomass.
