Unplanned Outages of 5,600 Megawatts put Eskom on Edge of Load Shed
JOHANNESBURG--June 18, 2014--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On Monday this week, South Africa's peak evening electrical demand stood at 33,918 megawatts (MW), topping the forecast demand of 32,980 MW. Higher demand in the winter months (June, July and August) is a cause for concern for the national power utility Eskom (Johannesburg), as unplanned outages keep hitting the system.
