Tidal Lagoons Could Make Big Splash in U.K.

GALWAY, IRELAND--July 23, 2014 --Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) Electricity generated by tidal lagoons around the U.K.'s coastline could contribute as much as €34 billion ($45.8 billion) over a period of 12 years.

A report conducted by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) found that if a proposed six tidal lagoons were built around the U.K. coast, they would deliver €34 billion over the construction period 2015-27, create up to 71,000 jobs, generate enough power for approximately 8 million homes and offer a financial return of more than €3.8 billion a year over their 120-year lifecycle.
