North Dakota Sues EPA Over CO2 Emission Reduction Standards

SUGAR LAND--October 26, 2015--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over new carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction standards. The EPA's Clean Power Plan (CPP) aims to cut nationwide CO2 emissions by 32% below 2005 levels by 2030. The CPP was proposed in June 2014 under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act, and final details were announced in August this year. Under the CPP, states have to meet specific emissions targets, but the methods used to reach those targets are not mandated by the EPA. Instead, states determine the Best System of Emission Reduction (BSER) to meet the goal.
