Monthly database updates include new and updated project deliveries, and plant changes, including contacts, operating details, and new plants coming online.

About the Market

Today, alternative fuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel, are emerging as the renewable fuels of the future. New requirements for reformulated gasoline, particularly in California, have found that the gasoline additive MTBE no longer meets requirements, and that its usage may be an environmental hazard. In California, the state air quality board has required the removal of MTBE additive from gasoline as of January 1, 2004, making ethanol the substitute. The controversy surrounding MTBE may present new opportunities for the ethanol industry nationwide. Alternative fuel producers are anticipating a greater role for ethanol and biodiesel fuels through 2005 and beyond. In 2003, seven new plants representing 295 million gallons of capacity came online, and four new plants representing another 150 million gallons started up in 2004. An additional 360 million gallons from 11 new plants will be completed by the end of 2005.

Ethanol Plant and Project Coverage

The plant tracking table identifies operational and under-development plants located in North America. Information consists of the owner name, plant status, physical location, plant start-up date, feedstock types and capacities, both planned and installed product output capacities and key decision-makers for each location. Get the most current and accurate picture of the installed and future ethanol and biodiesel production capacities by location and by owner.
