Plant Coverage by SIC Code
IIR's North American plant coverage of the current 762 operational plants are categorized by a four digit SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) Code, which identifies the primary business of the plant. Beyond the SIC code, IIR has expanded its coverage to include an eight-digit SIC Product Code that specifically identifies over 9 products produced at these plants.
Medicinals & Botanicals (SIC 2833)
Most plant-derived drug preparations, as well as those that can be synthetically duplicated. Vitamins plus the growing sector of “alternative” and herbal remedies are also found in SIC 2833.
Pharmaceutical Preparations (SIC 2834)
Prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs for human or animal use. Traditional drug therapies such as antibiotics, analgesics (any medicine intended to stop pain) and cold remedies are found in SIC 2834.
Diagnostic Substances (SIC 2835)
Materials used in the diagnosis, prognosis, prediction and prevention of disease. In vitro (an experiment performed in an artificial environment like a test tube or culture media), and in vivo (tests which are performed in a living body or organism, as well as a process or reaction in the same) diagnostics and reagents are found in this SIC.
Biological Products, Ex. Diagnostic (SIC 2836)
An umbrella term for therapies that are formulated from organisms or their cellular components. The relatively new genetically based therapies, vaccines and hematology products are among those classified as SIC 2836.
