Energia Sustentavel Stops Construction of 3.3-Gigawatt Jirau Hydropower Plant after Permit Expires

CORDOBA, ARGENTINA--May 22, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Energia Sustentavel do Brasil (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) consortium recently was forced to stop construction of the 3.3-gigawatt (GW) Jirau Hydropower Plant because the preliminary construction permit, which was granted in November 2008 by the Brazilian environmental authority IBAMA and the national water agency ANA, had expired. However, Energia Sustentavel announced that it expects to receive a definitive installation license by the beginning of June. The power station could still become operational by February 2012 as scheduled.
