Italian Organization Forecasts Renewable Energy Investments to Exceed $58 Billion

GALWAY, IRELAND--June 12, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Italian Observatory of Renewable Energy has forecast that between 2009 and 2020, a total of $58 billion will be invested in the renewable energy sector of the country. Italy holds the unenviable record of having the highest dependency on energy imports within the G8 group of nations, with about 86% of its energy requirements met through imports. Efforts are on to change this statistic with investments being made in homegrown energy resources. Alongside this requirement is the need to increase the country's amount of renewable energy to meet the European Union's (EU) overall target of 20% of energy being supplied from renewable sources by 2020.
