U.S. Retains Top Global Spot for Geothermal Energy
SUGAR LAND--October 6, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to a recent update from the Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) (Washington, D.C.), the U.S. continues to be the global leader in harnessing geothermal energy, which constituted about 4% of the nation's renewable energy consumption in 2007. The sector has seen a marginal growth during the past three years, with installed capacity rising from slightly more than 2,800 MW in 2006 from facilities in California, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii, rising to the current 3,153 MW in eight states. The number of facilities has grown from 34 to 132 since 2006.
