Drax Power's 290-Megawatt Biomass Plant Clears Local Planning
GALWAY, IRELAND--November 9, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Plans by Drax Power Limited (Selby, England) to build one of the U.K.'s largest biomass power plants took a significant step forward following the decision by North Yorkshire County Council's planning committee to grant permission for the project. The final decision on the £700 million ($1.2 billion) Ouse Renewable Energy Plant, which will have a power generation capacity of 290 megawatts (MW), now lies with the government's Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), which is responsible for granting permission for any projects in excess of 50 MW. The plant will be located next to Drax's 4-gigawatt power plant in Selby, North Yorkshire, the U.K.'s largest coal-fired plant, responsible for about 7% of the U.K's electricity.
