Nexsun Ethanol Anticipates Fall Construction Start on Biofuels Complex in Kansas
Once final permits are approved, Nexsun will proceed with construction on the first phase of the project, a 40 million gallon per year fuel ethanol

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Privately held Nexsun Ethanol LLC (Ulysses, Kansas), an affiliate of Nexsun Energy Corporation (Los Angeles, California), has announced that the company has secured a design-build contractor and construction management firm in anticipation of starting construction this fall on the first phase of a planned new biofuels complex that will be located in Ulysses, Kansas.
Once final permits are approved, Nexsun will proceed with construction on the first phase of the project, a 40 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant. The company has secured a spot with ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) as its design-build contractor and selected a construction management and site work provider WB Services (Segwick, Kansas).
Construction on the $125 million project is expected to start in October 2007.
The first phase of the project calls for the construction of a 40 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will process some 15 million bushels per year of corn into the renewable fuel. The plant will also generate 343,000 tons per year of distillers grains annually and capture approximately 132,000 tons per year of carbon dioxide off the plants fermentation process.
Phase two of the project that was originally the first phase, calls for the construction of a 30 million gallon per year biodiesel plant that will process soybean oil into fuel. Construction on phase two is expected to begin in the spring of 2008. The plant is expected to be producing both ethanol and biodiesel by the fall of 2009.
Biofuel complexes are becoming more of a trend over building just one or the other to make biofuels. Industrial Info is tracking an additional fourteen biofuel complex projects in Alberta, Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Production Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging synthetic fuels market. This database covers 123 ethanol plants currently in operation and 290 plants under development. It also covers 32 operational biodiesel plants and 75 biodiesel plants under development.
