Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- The state of New York has been quietly growing its biofuels production capacity, and currently two fuel ethanol plants and one biodiesel facility are currently under construction. Fifteen additional biofuel plants are in the pre construction phase and represent over $1.3 billion in capital dollars and roughly 583 million gallons of ethanol capacity and 215 million gallons of biodiesel capacity.
The other ethanol plant currently under construction is the state is Western New York Energy in Medina. Construction on this 50 million gallon per year plant is expected to be completed by late first quarter of 2008. Northern Biodiesel is developing the lone biodiesel plant under construction. This small 2 million gallon per year plant is being built in Ontario and is expected to be ready to produce fuel by March 2008.
After just recently clearing some local opposition hurdles, Empire Green Biofuels planned plant in Romulus may be the next plant to start construction in the State. This is a proposed 60 million gallon per year plant that has a big time backing partner in Cilion (Goshen, California). Cilion is also developing another ethanol plant in Caledonia that is expected to produce 60 million gallon per year as well.
A project developing in the Buffalo area could be progressing to the construction phase very soon. RiverWright Energy is expected to receive their state air permit soon and will move forward in the spring on a 110 million gallon per year plant on the Buffalo River. Additional biofuel sites are being developed in Ogdensburg, Lyonsdale, Cortland, Fort Covington, Hampton, Hauppauge, Rochester, Brooklyn, Massena, Tonawanda, Middletown, and Medina.
