Eletrobras Termonuclear S.A. (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has been analyzing the incident’s cause, but an official report has not been released. Maintenance work at the Westinghouse turbo generator could be completed October 14, 2007. The date that was previously announced was October 12, but it has been postponed because of the delay of some electric modules coming from the United States.

The spare parts have arrived in Brazil and await National Customs’ authorization. Angra II, the 1,350-megawatt (MW) plant, is operating at 100% for the first time in seven years to compensate for Angra I’s outage.

In March 2008, Angra I will go offline for 30 days for the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle. In November 2008, the steam generator will be replaced, and the plant will be taken offline for 90 days.

The 657-MW plant has been operating with a pressurized water reactor since 1985. It is located on Itaorna Beach in Angra dos Reis in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
