Bunge-Ergon Ethanol Project in Mississippi on Track for April 2008 Start-Up

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A 50-50 joint venture ethanol project between Ergon Refining Incorporated (Jackson, Mississippi) and Bunge Limited (Saint Louis, Missouri), named Bunge-Ergon Vicksburg LLC (Vicksburg, Mississippi), is on track to finish construction and start up production on the venture's new fuel ethanol plant in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The plant, on the Mississippi River in Vicksburg Harbor, has been under construction since June 2007 and is expecting to begin producing fuel ethanol by April 2008. BE & K Construction (Birmingham, Alabama) is building the estimated $100 million plant. Bunge's existing grain-handling and storage facilities are also within the 27-acre site with infrastructure to handle corn.

Once completed, the plant will process more than 21 million bushels of corn annually at the site and produce 60 million gallons per year of ethanol and distillers grains. Some 32 new jobs will be created when the plant is running at full capacity.

Currently, Bunge-Ergon is the only ethanol plant in Mississippi that is under construction. Eight additional ethanol plants are in the planning phase in the state, but none have started field construction. If all nine plants are built, the state will have an overall production capacity in excess of 334 million gallons annually.
