Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Eletronuclear's 657-megawatt (MW) nuclear power plant went offline on February 16, 2008, to undergo maintenance and other works mainly on the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle. The plant will be reconnected to the national grid on April 15, 2008.
During the outage, other maintenance procedures will be performed, including an inspection of the steam generators and reactor cooling pumps. Additionally, Eletronuclear will prepare for an upcoming change in steam generators.
The new generators will be installed in September 2008, increasing Angra I's serviceable life 20 years. The plant will remain offline for 120 days. The adjustments will be developed by Westinghouse. View related October 12, 2007, article - Angra I Nuclear Plant to Resume Operations.
