Value of Industrial Project-Spending in the Carolinas Increasing
The Power Industry has the most project spending planned for 2008 in the Carolinas with 40 projects representing $3.1 billion TIV.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The value of planned industrial project spending in the Carolinas has increased 25% compared with 2005 when $5.8 billion was planned. There are 241 projects planned to begin construction in 2008 in North and South Carolina totaling more than $7.3 billion in total investment value (TIV).
The Power Industry has the most project spending planned for 2008 in the Carolinas with 40 projects representing $3.1 billion TIV. One of the industry's larger projects is Duke Energy Carolinas LLC's (NYSE: DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) construction of a $2.4 billion coal-fired unit addition at its Cliffside Power Station in Cliffside, North Carolina. The Shaw Group Incorporated (NYSE: SGR) (Charlotte, North Carolina) is providing engineering and construction services for the project, which will add 800 megawatts when completed in 2011.
After the Power Industry comes the Chemical Processing Industry with 38 projects totaling almost $1.5 billion TIV. A third of that is being spent by E.I. DuPont (NYSE: DD) (Wilmington, Delaware) at the company's chemical plant in Charleston, South Carolina, where a $500 million Kevlar unit expansion is underway. BE&K Engineering Company is providing engineering, procurement and construction management services for the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2010.
Other industries getting the majority of the project work include Pharmaceutical & Biotech, which has 37 projects totaling $1.1 billion, and Alternative Fuels, which has 10 projects totaling $698 million.
