Stone & Webster Awarded EPC Contract for Hudson Environmental Upgrade in New Jersey

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, TX)--Civil construction has begun on a $700 million environmental systems upgrade at the Hudson power station in Jersey City, New Jersey. The facility is owned and operated by Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (NYSE: PEG) (Newark, New Jersey). The company has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract to Stone & Webster, a subsidiary of the Shaw Group (NYSE: SGR) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), to oversee the installation of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit, a flue gas desulfurization unit (scrubber), a baghouse and an activated carbon injection system (ACIS) to address the facility's environmental issues on it's 660-megawatt (MW) Unit 2.

Civil construction kicked off earlier this year, and Stone & Webster will be releasing requests for quotes or bids for electrical and mechanical work on the SCR portion of the project next month. The remaining electrical and mechanical contracts for the project will be released in the late second quarter or early third quarter of this year with an estimated mechanical cost of more than $40 million. Construction should be completed on the project as a whole in the next 24 months. The Hudson station started operations in 1964 and has a generation capacity of 1,113 MW that supplies approximately 834,750 homes.
