Finland Set for Bidding on Sixth Nuclear Power Plant

JOHANNESBURG--April 29, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The application of the Finish power company Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) (Helsinki) signals the start of a series of proposals for Finland's sixth nuclear power station. Facing a projected shortfall of 7,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020 if new projects are not started as soon as possible, the Finnish government is favoring more nuclear projects rather than coal-fed thermal generation, which would run against clean-emission targets. Finland currently imports a significant amount of its power requirements and is keen to become self-sufficient for its domestic needs.
