Installed Capacity of Wind Power in Northwestern China's Jiayuguan-Jiuquan Region to Double in 2008

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Wind-power generation has been quickly developing in northwestern China's Jiayuguan-Jiuquan region, according to Gansu Electric Power Corporation (Lanzhou), a provincial subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China. So far, 491 wind turbines at six windfarms are operating with 408.1 megawatts (MW) of capacity:

Gansu Jieyuan Wind Power Company's Yumen Jieyuan windfarm

•143 turbines
•110 MW of capacity

China Datang Corporation's (Beijing) Yumen Diwopu windfarm

•58 turbines
•49.3 MW of capacity

China Power Investment Corporation's (Beijing) Guazhou windfarm Phase I

•134 turbines
•100.5 MW of capacity

Guazhou Xingyang windfarm

•66 turbines
•49.5 MW of capacity

Guazhou Daliang windfarm

•33 turbines
•49.5 MW of capacity

Yumen Sanshilijingzi windfarm

•58 turbines
•49.3 MW of capacity

Construction on new windfarms has been following one after another in the Gobi area. Windfarms currently under construction include 66 0.75 MW turbines in China Power Investment's Guazhou windfarm Phase II; and 33 1.5 MW turbines in Phase II of the Guazhou Daliang windfarm. The region's installed capacity of wind power is expected to total about 558 MW in 2008, more than double the total installed capacity of 259.8 MW in 2007. Amid such strong growth in wind-power development, Jiayuguan Power Supply Company, a local branch of the State Grid Corporation, is accelerating the construction of the 330-kilovolt (kV) Jiayuguan-Guazhou transmission and substation project, as well as the preparation for the 330 kV Yumen Transformer Substation Project while sparing no efforts in building the 110 kV outgoing line for each windfarm.
