Harbin Power Engineering Wins EPC Contract for 560-Megawatt Combined-Cycle Plant in Pakistan

BEIJING--June 19, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--After several rounds of negotiation, Harbin Power Engineering Company Limited (HPE) (Harbin, China) signed a $397 million engineering, procurement and construction contract on June 13 with Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Limited (KAR:KESC) (Karachi, Pakistan), a company controlled by the government of Pakistan, for the Bin Qasim Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Pakistan. Including two other combined-cycle power plants awarded to China's Dongfang Electric Corporation (SHA:600875 ) (Chengdu, Sichuan) earlier this year, Chinese enterprises have won construction contracts in Pakistan for a total installed capacity of 1,510 MW, equaling about $1 billion. Upon completion of these projects, the power shortage in Pakistan could be effectively alleviated.
