Feasibility Study Report Approved for 1,000-Megawatt Expansion Project in Jiangsu Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Under the mandate of Huaneng Power International Incorporated (NYSE:HNP) (Beijing), an examination meeting was held for the feasibility study report of the Huaneng Jinling Power Plant Phase II expansion project in Qilihe Town, Nanjing, in eastern China's Jiangsu province. Plans were approved for one 1,000-megawatt (MW) ultra-supercritical coal-fired unit in order to replace smaller units. Space will be reserved for further expansions.

The $580 million project will be connected to the grid through the 500-kilovolt, 8-kilometer Longtan Transformer Substation transmission line. It will use soft coal from the Shengfu Dongsheng coalfield.

The power plant is operated by Huaneng Nanjing Jingling Power Generation Company Limited (Jiangsu), a company jointly invested by Huaneng Power International (60%), Jiangsu Guoxin Assets Management Group Company Limited (Nanjing) (30%) and Nanjing Municipal Investment Company (10%). The plant currently has two 390-MW GE 9AF series gas turbine-steam combined-cycle generating units in operation that were commissioned in December 2006 and March 2007, respectively.

The expansion is expected to begin construction this year and begin commercial operation in 2010.
