Preliminary Earthwork Begins for Phase I of Punta Colorada Windfarm in Chile

CORDOBA, ARGENTINA--August 19, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE:ABX) (Toronto, Ontario) has begun preliminary earthwork at the Punta Colorada windfarm in Chile's Region IV. In June, Barrick submitted an environmental impact statement to Chile's environmental assessment entity Conama to expand the windfarm from 20 megawatts (MW) to 36 MW by adding eight generators. The project's site would also be expanded 79 acres for a total of 597 acres.
