Brazil Inaugurates First LNG Terminal at Port of Pecem
CORDOBA, ARGENTINA--September 9, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On August 20, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and other authorities inaugurated the 7 million-cubic-meter-per-day Pecem liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving and regasification terminal in northeastern Brazil. The facility is operated by Transpetro, a Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) subsidiary, at the Port of Pecem. The LNG from the terminal will be used mainly to supply thermoelectric plants, such as Termoceara and Termofortalez in Ceara state and Jesus Soares Pereira in Rio Grande do Norte state.
