Utilities Slowly Restoring Power after Hurricane Ike
SUGAR LAND--September 17, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (Austin, Texas) estimates that Hurricane Ike caused up to 2.87 million homes and businesses to lose power. On Tuesday morning, 2.1 million homes and businesses were still without power throughout the 80 Texas counties that were estimated to have been affected. CenterPoint Energy Incorporated (NYSE:CNP) (Houston, Texas) was the largest distribution company to suffer damage from Hurricane Ike, reporting almost 2.2 million customers, about 99%, of its service territory suffering from outages. Entergy Texas Incorporated (Beaumont, Texas), a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana), reported that 392,000 of its customers were without power, and Southwestern Electric Power Company (Columbus, Ohio), a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company (NYSE:AEP) (Columbus), said that about 70,000 of its Texas customers were affected.
