This is up slightly from a February 2008 analysis revealing $24 billion in industrial projects under construction from 163 projects. The Industrial Manufacturing Industry has 18 projects under construction in the state totaling $7 billion. Oil & Gas Industry projects, including Refining, Production, Transmission and Terminal projects, account for 76 projects totaling $5.9 billion.
Since August 2008, 19 projects totaling more than $1.5 billion in industrial project work has begun construction in Texas. For example, construction recently began on the grassroot Midcontinent Express natural gas pipeline project, a 493-mile project, which includes the construction of 40 miles of 30-inch-diameter natural gas transmission pipeline cutting across northeast Texas as it traverses from Oklahoma to Louisiana. Midcontinent Express Pipeline LLC is a 50:50 joint venture between Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE:KMP) (Houston, Texas) and Energy Transfer Partners L.P. (NYSE:ETP) (Dallas, Texas). The project includes a new compressor station being constructed near Paris, Texas. The compressor station includes three 8,000-horsepower engine-driven compressor units. Ranger Plant Constructional Company Incorporated (Abilene, Texas) is the general contractor for the project.
Despite construction delays related to Hurricane Ike, construction is progressing on the second phase of the Golden Pass LNG project near the Louisiana/Texas border.
In West Texas, Lazarus Energy Holdings LLC (Houston, Texas) is restarting a refinery in Nixon, Texas.
