AES Corporation Nears Construction of Windfarm Project in Pennsylvania

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--AES Armenia Mountain Wind LLC, a subsidiary of AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) (Arlington, Virginia), is close to beginning construction of the $316 million, 186-megawatt Armenia Mountain Windfarm project located near Armenia Mountain Township, Pennsylvania. Permits are in place and the company hopes to finalize construction contracts soon.

The project is scheduled to be ready for commercial operation by the fall of 2009. The project will consist of installing 125 GE Energy sle wind turbine generators with a power generating capacity of 1.5 MW each. In Tioga County, 73 turbines will be erected between Ward and Sullivan townships all the way to Bradford County, with 52 turbines being installed in Armenia Township. The power produced by the facility will generate enough electricity to service approximately 47,000 homes.

Once contracts are signed, Renewable Energy Systems Americas (Broomfield, Colorado) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services needed for the project.
