Petrobras Biocombustive Joins Biodiesel Project in Brazil

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian oil company Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro) has joined a biodiesel project through subsidiary Petrobras Biocombustivel (Rio de Janeiro). The project is undergoing the final stage of construction and is located in the city of Marialva in the state of Parana.

The new plant will have a production capacity of 120 million liters of biodiesel per year and is expected to generate 120 jobs. The investment required to develop the project will be about $50 million.

The other owner of the project is BSBIOS Industria e Comercio de Biodiesel Sul Brasil SA (Passo Fundo), a Brazilian company that already operates a biodiesel production plant in the city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, using soy and sunflower oils. Petrobras Biocombustivel owns and operates other biodiesel plants as well, with a combined capacity of 324 million liters per year. This company was created to develop the biofuel projects of Petrobras, which also include fuel ethanol facilities.
