Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Summer Nuclear Power Station, located in Jenkinsville, South Carolina, and owned by Scana Corporation (NYSE:SCG) (Columbia, South Carolina) was brought offline October 16, when the plant's 966-megawatt (MW) Unit 01 was scheduled for a refuel outage. Officials have said that a problem was discovered that will extend the unit's outage an additional two weeks from the original planned restart date of December 1. The unit is now projected for to restart December 15 if there are no other delays.
Virgil Summer began operation in 1982 and has one 966-MW unit. Scana is an $11 billion, Fortune 500 energy-based holding company. Scana's subsidiaries and affiliates are involved in the generation and sale of electricity.
