Toyota Idles Six Plants Amid Massive Recalls, Affecting 10 Vehicle Models
SUGAR LAND--January 29, 2010--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--For decades, Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) (Japan) and its United States subsidiary, Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America (Torrance, California), were synonymous with automotive quality and reliability. One of the biggest selling points for their vehicles was that their quality was light years ahead of the American automakers. This philosophy and public perception has worked and boosted Toyota to No. 1 in worldwide sales. However, in the past year, that reputation has taken a significant hit due to a number of recalls. The latest, announced earlier this week, will idle six of Toyota's North American plants and temporarily put thousands out of work.
