Frito-Lay Biomass Boiler in Kansas Scheduled for Fall Startup
SUGAR LAND--February 4, 2010--¬Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Leading snack food maker Frito-Lay Incorporated (Plano, Texas), a division of PepsiCo Incorporated (NYSE:PEP) (Chicago, Illinois), is leading the charge in implementing the use of biomass-fired boilers at food processing plants in North America. In doing so, the company is investing $15 million for the installation of a 60,000-pound-per-hour biomass boiler at a food processing plant in Topeak, Kansas, that will utilize a combination of wood-waste and tire-derived fuel to generate steam to heat oil used in the manufacturing process. The boiler is on schedule to begin startup operations in August 2010.
