Sunoco Incorporated to Install Wet Gas Scrubber at Marcus Hook Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sunoco Incorporated (NYSE:SUN) (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is planning to install a wet gas scrubber at the company's refinery in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania. The scrubber was required by a federal consent decree that the company would install a scrubber to reduce emissions.

The wet gas scrubber will be used to clean air, flue gas, or other gases of various pollutants and dust particles from Sunoco's 105,000-barrel-per-day fluid catalytic cracker unit. The scrubber will work with the contact of target compounds or particular matter with a scrubbing solution. The solution can be composed of just water for dust, or a solution of reagents that specifically target certain compounds.

Sunoco will continue to study options through spring 2010. The company will select a design firm to begin preliminary design. Sunoco will later select an engineering and construction company in 2011 to perform engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project that is expected to commence construction by August 2012. The construction is expected to be completed by June 2013.

Sunoco owns and operates four refineries in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania; Westville, New Jersey (recently mothballed); and Toledo, Ohio. These refineries have combined crude oil processing current capacity of 675,000 barrels per day.
