The Big Get Bigger: Babcock & Wilcox Expands Environmental Services Business

SUGAR LAND--April 1, 2010--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In two announcements last month, Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group (PGG) took steps to broaden and expand the company's electric power environmental remediation business. On March 15, Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (Lynchburg, Virginia), a subsidiary of McDermott International (NYSE:MDR) (Houston, Texas), announced it would purchase GE Energy's electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and emissions-monitoring business units. A week earlier, the same B&W unit formed a strategic alliance with Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) to market and sell carbon dioxide capture systems for existing coal-fired power plants in the United States and Canada.
