Planned Projects by Sulfuric Acid Producers Reflect Upbeat Outlook on Demand

SUGAR LAND--April 13, 2010--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Last year, producers of sulfuric acid witnessed a dramatic drop in demand as petroleum refinery operating rates fell sharply, consumption by agricultural chemical producers tapered off, and mining operations slowed as well. Although that tide hasn't completely turned as of yet, there are some signs of improvement on the immediate horizon. Total capital and maintenance spending for this segment of the Chemical Processing Industry (CPI) reported by Industrial Info Resources, based on the North American Project Database, totaled barely more than $100 million during 2009. So far, the expectations for 2010 have increased to an estimated $241 million, a significant increase over last year, although still far short of the 2008 level that exceeded $350 million.
