GALWAY, IRELAND--May 19, 2010--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--European countries continue to make progress toward their shared goal of decarbonizing their economies, Nicola Lynch, managing director of Industrial Info Europe, said in an exclusive "Navigating the Currents of Change" interview. The European Union has determined that member nations need to build a total of 360,000 megawatts (MW) of new electric generating capacity over the next 12 years, replacing about half of the continent's total installed generating capacity, she said. Over time, it is expected that nuclear power and renewable sources of electricity will generate a growing share of electricity in Europe, in many cases replacing aging coal-fired generators.
