South Korean  5,000-Megawatt Offshore Wind Project to Test 20 Turbine Models

BANGALORE, INDIA--September 23, 2010--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Korea has announced that detailed plans for the country's first large-scale wind power project will be released in October. The first stage of the project will consist of a test installation in the Yellow Sea of 20 different models of wind turbines from various manufacturers. The testing is expected to be completed by 2013. To help achieve the renewable energy targets, in addition to the experimental windfarm, South Korea is also studying solar power. SunEdison (Beltsville, Maryland), a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials Incorporated (NYSE:WFR) (St. Peters, Missouri), signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gyeongsangnam provincial government earlier this month to construct 400 MW of solar power plants by 2013. POSCO Power, a subsidiary of the steel producer POSCO (NYSE:PKX) (Pohang, South Korea), will manufacture fuel cell stack modules in Korea from base components supplied by FuelCell Energy Incorporated (NASDAQ:FCEL) (Danbury, Connecticut) .
