Calgren Renewable Fuels' Plans for Anaerobic Digester Addition Not Moving

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A planned anaerobic digester for Calgren Renewable Fuels LLC's (CRF) (Pixley, California) fuel ethanol plant in Pixley is up in the air, but not cancelled. CRF is still waiting for approval from the Tulare County Planning Commission to proceed with the project. Further, the project has met with some local opposition about odor and environmental concerns.

CRF's idea behind the addition was to convert bovine manure from nearby dairies into biomethane to help power the 58 million-gallon-per-year fuel ethanol plant. In addition to reducing the amount of natural gas consumed by the plant, the digester would produce a byproduct of fiber for cattle bedding and liquid fertilizer.

CRF has been awarded $4.68 million in a matching grant from California Energy Commission to help pay for the $10 million project. If the county does not approve of the project, the matching funds could be withdrawn.
