Researched by Industrial Info Research Latin America (Córdoba, Argentina)--Iberian Minerals Corporation (TSX:IZN) (Lucerne, Switzerland), through its Spanish subsidiary Mina de Aguas Teñidas (MATSA) (Seville, Spain), has presented its $390 million expansion project for its Aguas Teñidas copper and zinc processing plant in the Huelva province of southern Spain.

The project involves the construction of a new mineral processing line that will allow the company to duplicate Aguas Teñidas' production from its current 2.2 million ton to 4.4 million tons of copper and zinc concentrate per year, with a daily production capacity of 1,200 tons. Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2013 and will take 18 months.

Iberian Minerals recently obtained the environmental permits for this project from the local government, and is now awaiting other complementary permits related to industrial and metallurgical process issues.

The Aguas Teñidas processing plant also will process mineral from another Iberian Minerals project: the reopening of the Sotiel underground copper and zinc mine. This operation, mothballed in 2002, is expected to restart exploitation by the time the construction of the new Aguas Teñidas mineral processing line is finished, which is scheduled for September 2014. When working at full capacity, Sotiel Mine is expected to extract 1 million tons of mineral per year.

Iberian Minerals is a Swiss-Canadian-listed global base metals company developing projects in Spain and Peru. It has held 100% interest in Minas de Aguas Teñidas since 2005.
