Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arkema Incorporated (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) recently went through a change in long-term service agreement (LTSA) contractors. Arkema owns three plants in the Houston, Texas, area of the Gulf Coast: the acrylic acid plant located in Pasadena and operated by American Acryl, the methyl mercaptan plant in Beaumont, and the sulfur chemicals plant in Houston.
Previously, these three plants had a regional contract with Austin Industries (Dallas, Texas) for onsite small capital and maintenance work. But this past summer, Arkema reviewed this LTSA contract and put it up for bid in the open market. Turner Industries Group LLC (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) received the three-year contract to perform mechanical and electrical work for the day-to-day maintenance, turnarounds and small capital projects at these locations.
A similar situation happened in TPC Group Incorporated's (NASDAQ:TPCG) (Houston, Texas) locations in Port Neches, Houston and Baytown, Texas. Previously, Austin Industries held an evergreen contract to perform maintenance and small capital work for these plants, which produce petrochemicals. This past summer, the contract was rebid and was awarded to Turner Industries.
Industrial Info has currently identified 63 unique chemical plants, which have an LTSA with Turner to perform maintenance or capital work, or simply have a preferred relationship. The majority of these plants are located in the Gulf Coast region, mainly spanning Texas and Louisiana, although Turner does have relationships with plants as far north as Wyoming or Idaho.
