JOHANNESBURG--November 15, 2012--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China's SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation (Jinan City, Shandong) has begun work simultaneously on power station and transmission line projects in Zambia. This follows the country's energy regulation board (ERB) approving the transmission line from the $650 million Maamba power station to Muzuma substation. The ERB has granted regulatory consent for Maamba Collieries Limited (Maamba, Zambia) and Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (Zesco) to sign a 265.5-megawatt (MW) power purchase agreement. Zesco will buy the power output for a period of 20 years. This will feed 265.5 MW of the power produced by the 300-MW power station into the national grid.
