EIA: Natural Gas, Wind to be Fastest Growing Sources of U.S. Generation

SUGAR LAND--September 18, 2019--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In its most recent Short-Term Energy Outlook, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasts that wind and natural gas will be the fastest-growing fuel sources for power generation in the U.S. this year and next. Natural gas-fired power is forecast to increase by 6% in 2019 and 2% next year, while wind power will increase by 6% in 2019 and 14% in 2020. The new sources of energy come along with an increase in coal-fired retirements. The EIA forecasts that U.S. coal-fired power will decline by 15% this year and 9% next year.
