If planned completion dates of under-construction projects are fulfilled by the end of 2019, Mexico will have more than 6.5 gigawatts (GW) of newbuild power generation capacity using natural gas as the main fuel. By the end of the third quarter, three new combined-cycle plants with a total capacity of 2 GW have been built in the states of Nuevo Leon and Tabasco. During the fourth quarter of the year, 4.3 GW in combined-cycle, 163 megawatts (MW) in internal combustion engines and 45 MW in simple-cycle steam and combustion turbines are expected to start commercial operations.
