Keystone Pipeline Remains Shut Down Due to Spill, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Keystone Pipeline Remains Shut Down Due to Spill, an Industrial Info Market Brief

TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) is still working on cleaning up a spill from its 590,000-barrel-per-day Keystone Pipeline in northeastern North Dakota. The pipeline has been shut down since October 29. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued the order Tuesday for the pipeline to remain shut down until its Canadian owner takes corrective action to determine the cause of a breach that leaked approximately 383,000 gallons.

The order requires TC Energy to send the affected portion of the 30-inch pipeline to an independent laboratory for testing to determine the cause. The company also must provide a plan to restart the line and for remediation. TC Energy expects to have the damaged portion of the pipeline excavated by the end of the week.
