Nippon Steel is rebuilding the blast furnace of the Muroran Steel Mill in Hokkaido, Japan, for the first time in 19 years. Muroran's current blast furnace is the only blast furnace in Hokkaido and started operations in November 2001. With a total investment of approximately 35 billion yen ($318.9 million), the company will introduce the state-of-the-art artificial intelligence for the first time. Muroran Blast Furnace 2 was shut down in mid-August, aiming to start operation in early December.
