U.S. Sees Revival in Combined-Cycle Gas Projects in 2022

U.S. Sees Revival in Combined-Cycle Gas Projects in 2022

Attachment: US NGCC 1122 MAP

November 9, 2022--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) power plants are enjoying a successful 2022, with 7,775 megawatts (MW) of electric-generating capacity set to be added to the U.S. grid for the full year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This follows four years of steady decline in NGCC startups, with the technology expected to remain the single largest source of power generation.

The EIA expects NGCC capacity to reach almost 290 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2022, which would account for 24% of total U.S. power generation. Industrial Info is tracking more than $7 billion worth of NGCC capital-spending projects across the U.S. that have completed, or are set to complete, construction this year. Along with projects set to be completed next year, companies involved include Seminole Electric Cooperative Incorporated, Emera Incorporated, Formosa Plastics Group, Indeck Energy Services Incorporated, DTE Energy Company (NYSE:DTE), J-POWER USA Development Company Limited, Lansing Board of Water and Light, Apex Power Group LLC, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative Incorporated, Southern Company (NYSE:SO and Competitive Power Ventures Incorporated.
